In December 1959, one of the church members donated land for construction of a church, and by May 1960, after much planning and praying, a large crowd gathered for a ground-breaking ceremony. A beautiful new church with a lighted steeple was the result of the faithfulness and giving spirit of the 66 members. In December 1960, the Covenant and Articles of Faith were adopted, and a dedication ceremony with 88 people in attendance, took place on April 23, 1961.
As El Paso County grew in the next three decades, Monument Hill Church grew and expanded its ministry through the addition of small group-focused Bible teaching (i.e. “Sunday School”) for people of all ages and seasons of life. The church was led by several pastors from the early 1960s through the 1990s timeframe, and experienced ebbs and flows in its church membership.
In 1994, the congregation purchased and moved into the current building at 18725 Monument Hill Road, and First Baptist Church of Monument became Monument Hill Church, SBC. The years fluctuated with various amounts of growth in different areas of ministry. Tom Clemmons began as Interim Pastor in 2011. A period of spiritual and numeric growth began in the 2012 timeframe and Tom Clemmons was called to be the Senior Pastor at MHC. After Pastor Clemmons felt called to a different ministry in 2019, the church was blessed to find and receive Pastor Caleb Nedimyer as Lead Pastor in August 2020, setting the course for the truth of the Gospel of Jesus Christ to be shared through worship, together, both locally and abroad through missions.
